Many thanks to Sandra
Melia of Astrokini Somalis for this lovely Boy.
Megs is a very independent cat but definitely a Mummy’s boy (when he
thinks no one is looking!)
He was not too keen on showing as a kitten but enjoyed it more as he
grew and these days
it depends what mood he is in as to whether he
will purr or grumble at the judges.
He is the same with the vet, so
maybe the white coats have something to do with it.
From being a kitten he
was always placed first in his open classes, became a Premier in
four shows and a Grand
Premier in a further three. We don’t show him
much now as he would have been in competition with his more
successful nephew, but he has an occasional outing on exhibition. He
enjoys being a show off and will always rise to the occasion,
showing
off and purring loudly for his admirers.
At home he has a sense
of humour which is not always appreciated by his humans. He enjoys
jumping onto shoulders, which in the summer with thin clothes can be
excruciating…… and he is one of the best escapologists of the Cat
World! A window or door has only to be open by the slightest crack
and he is gone with a flick of his tail. Having lost our very first
Somali on the busy road where we live, we immediately give chase. It
is a game he enjoys enormously. He meows to let us know where he is
but keeps just out of reach, only letting himself be caught when he
has tired of the chasing game.
For a boy he has quite a high pitched voice which he uses very
effectively to tell you he wants a door opening for him. He is very
accepting of other adult cats, but is not too keen on kittens; he
likes to put them in their place with a growl and a crafty swipe of his paw.
